Shutdown-delayed US September jobs report due Tuesday

Washington (AFP) - The US September jobs report, delayed by the government shutdown, will be released next Tuesday, according to a Labor Department calendar released Thursday.

The keenly watched report had been scheduled for release on October 4, but was postponed along with most official economic indicators after the federal government partially shut down on October 1 due to a political budget impasse in Congress.

The 11th hour budget and debt ceiling deal in Congress reached late Wednesday ended the 16-day shutdown, and President Barack Obama ordered hundreds of thousands of furloughed employees back to work Thursday.

The government reopening allowed the Labor Department to reschedule the release of the indicators.

Among them are wholesale September inflation data, to be released on October 29, and the consumer price index for September, on October 30.

The October jobs report is set for November 8.
