Plans for a new community building, which will be used as a home for organised sports teams and for local community events, were unanimously endorsed by Members of the Council?s North East Area Planning Committee last week.
The land that will house the new community building was provided by developer Crest Nicholson as part of the Bolnore Village housing development, along with the majority of the funding for the new sports and recreation facilities. Mid Sussex District Council has worked closely with the Bolnore Village Residents Association and consulted with local people to create a scheme that meets the needs of the local community.
The new sports and recreation area will feature three football pitches, a brand new skate park and a hard surfaced area that will be marked out for a range of sports including tennis, netball, five-a-side football and basketball. The pavilion building will provide a community hall, meeting rooms and changing facilities for up to four separate sports teams. There will also be 40 parking spaces provided outside.
The Council is now inviting local companies to compete for the construction contract, with a view to work starting on site in August 2013. The building works are expected to take nine months to complete, so the new community building and sports facilities should be open to the public in late spring next year.
The Bolnore Village Residents Association has taken an active role in the project to provide local people with some sports and recreation facilities. They recently carried out a naming competition for the new community centre and received over 50 suggestions from the public before selecting ?The Woodside Pavilion? as the winning entry.
?It?s fantastic to hear that planning permission has been granted for our new community centre,? said Alistair McPherson, a member of the Bolnore Village Residents Association. ?A lot of people from Bolnore, and the wider community, have invested a great deal of time and effort to get us to this momentous point.
?We now have firm plans approved by MSDC and we should all feel proud of our achievements. I would like to thank the Mid Sussex District Council team behind the application on behalf of everyone at Bolnore Village. They have worked hard to listen to the views of local people and have produced some extremely exciting plans.
?This scheme will deliver much needed sports and leisure facilities for the village and will provide a real focal point for the local community. I?m really looking forward to seeing work start on the new community pavilion because I know it will provide local people with a great deal of enjoyment.?
Crest Nicholson has also transferred some land to the Council in the centre of Bolnore Village which will now be used as public space. The Bolnore Village Residents Association has planted a number of fruit trees on the site and they hope to turn the area into a community orchard as part of their Britain in Bloom entry.
