In an interview with Tech Crunch Disrupt SF Conference, Zuckerberg announced that Facebook is beginning a process to optimize their search engine. CBS News Online calls it ?friend mining,? a process that feeds off Facebook?s goldmine of personal information.
Zuckerberg explained that the search engine would rely on a person?s friends? ?likes? to recommend findings.
While the site is not known for its search capabilities, those who work there are quick to point out that they receive over 800 million queries daily, mostly of people looking for their friends.
Ultimately, Zuckerberg does not want users to ever log off of Facebook. While the Bing search bar is small and hidden on Facebook?s page and already keeps the ?likes? of a person?s friends in a search result as part of Facebook?s partnership with Bing, Zuckerberg wants success more akin to Google?s success.
Google is a far shoot with 2.87 billion searches a day; Zuckerberg?s ambitions remain to be seen as realistic or far-fetched.
